How Does Zoom! Teeth Whitening Work?

Zoom! uses a professional whitening gel and a specialized light. Before treatment, we protect your gums and lips. We then apply the gel to your teeth and use the light in a series of short cycles, checking your comfort and progress along the way.

The whitening portion may take about 45 minutes. Your total visit may be longer because we first evaluate your teeth and prepare them for treatment. We’ll explain what to expect at your appointment.

What Happens at a Whitening Appointment?

We begin by examining your teeth and gums, discussing any sensitivity, and considering the cause of your discoloration. If whitening is a good fit, we’ll protect your gums and lips before applying the gel.

Between treatment cycles, we check your tooth shade and ask how you’re feeling. We may adjust the treatment if you experience sensitivity. Our treatment rooms offer blankets, pillows, free Wi-Fi, and TVs to help you feel comfortable during your visit.

What Results Can You Expect?

Zoom! may noticeably brighten natural teeth in a single appointment, but results vary. Your starting shade, the condition of your teeth, and the cause of the discoloration all affect how your smile responds. We cannot promise a specific final shade.

Whitening also does not change the color of crowns, veneers, fillings, or other restorations. Some types of discoloration respond less well to bleaching. We’ll discuss these limits before recommending treatment so you can make an informed choice.

How Long Do Whitening Results Last?

Whitening results are not permanent. Coffee, tea, red wine, tobacco, and other staining substances can gradually discolor your teeth again. Brushing, regular dental visits, and following your aftercare instructions can help you maintain your results.

We’ll explain when to resume staining foods and drinks and discuss touch-ups if you need them. Ask our team whether a take-home whitening option is appropriate for you.

Is Zoom! Teeth Whitening Right for You?

Professional whitening works well for many people, but it is not the best choice for every smile. We’ll examine your teeth and gums before treatment and talk with you about factors that may affect your results, including:

• Crowns, veneers, fillings, or other restorations on visible teeth
• Cavities or gum concerns that need attention first
• A history of tooth sensitivity
• Pregnancy or other medical considerations

If whitening is unlikely to achieve the change you want, we can discuss other options, such as bonding or composite restorations.

Does Zoom! Whitening Cause Sensitivity?
